About SAYEF

SAYEF - Digital Asset (1).png

The Southeast Asia Youth Energy Forum (SAYEF) is a regional initiative that empowers young leaders to shape the region’s energy future through intergenerational dialogue, policy engagement, and collaboration on clean energy and sustainability.

Returning in 2025 to Kuala Lumpur, SAYEF brings a mission to:

  • Strengthen regional cooperation on sustainable energy

  • Promote youth-led energy education

  • Accelerate inclusive climate action and just transitions

The forum brings together youth and leaders to co-create a greener, more sustainable Southeast Asia.

History of SAYEF

SAYEF - Digital Asset (1).png

The first edition of the Southeast Asia Youth Energy Forum (SAYEF) was launched in Bali, Indonesia in 2023 during Indonesia's ASEAN Chairmanship. It was initiated by the Society of Renewable Energy (SRE).

The inaugural forum gathered youth delegates, policymakers, and energy experts from across the region. Its key outcome was a set of youth-driven recommendations, which were formally presented to ASEAN Energy Ministers, CEOs, and international organizations relevant to the energy sector.

Building on this momentum, Youth for Energy Southeast Asia (Y4E-SEA) embraced the spirit of SAYEF to develop an ongoing platform for youth capacity building, policy engagement, and intergenerational dialogue on Southeast Asia’s sustainable energy future.

To join the competition, you can choose one of the four urban-energy tracks that emphasize youths as drivers, advocates, and change agents in urban energy development.

Each track emphasises non-technical approaches accessible to students from all academic backgrounds—including policy, communications, business, social sciences, arts, and community organising—while positioning youth as active change agents rather than passive recipients of energy services.
