History of SAYEF

The first edition of the Southeast Asia Youth Energy Forum (SAYEF) was launched in Bali, Indonesia in 2023 during Indonesia's ASEAN Chairmanship. It was initiated by the Society of Renewable Energy (SRE).
The inaugural forum gathered youth delegates, policymakers, and energy experts from across the region. Its key outcome was a set of youth-driven recommendations, which were formally presented to ASEAN Energy Ministers, CEOs, and international organizations relevant to the energy sector.
Building on this momentum, Youth for Energy Southeast Asia (Y4E-SEA) embraced the spirit of SAYEF to develop an ongoing platform for youth capacity building, policy engagement, and intergenerational dialogue on Southeast Asia’s sustainable energy future.
Youth Declaration
The first Southeast Asia Youth Declaration on Energy and Climate was adopted at the Southeast Asia Youth Energy Forum (SAYEF) 2025 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
This declaration calls for an intergenerational approach for a just and sustainable energy transition by 2030, witnessed by YB Tuan Haji Akmal Nasrullah bin Mohd Nasir, Deputy Minister, Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA) Malaysia, Ms. Hee En Qi, Press Secretary to the Minister of Housing and Local Government Malaysia, Mr. Mohd Azharuddin Mat Sah, Executive Director, President’s Office, Sunway Group, and Prof. Dr Abhimanyu Veerakumarasivam, Provost & Deputy Vice Chancellor, Sunway University.
